FUNCTIONAL REHABILITATION

Functional rehabilitation is another term used for therapeutic exercise in fitness and/or clinical settings for clients as an approach to train or “retrain” the body as efficiently as possible, while considering the individual’s daily activities and lifestyle.

The overall goal is to incorporate movement(s) which will mimic the activities of their day to day lives necessary to keep them moving injury free, pain free and target any deficiency that may be limiting the individual’s achievements.

This specificity training is done after careful evaluation of the client’s wants and needs, that include realistic and achievable goals. For instance, an individual who enjoys gardening, but has weakened low back or leg muscles that prevents them from doing so, will be conditioned with a specifically designed, 3 phase exercise program that will strengthen muscles, increase range of motion, create more flexibility and help stabilize the body to make that activity or task easier and more comfortable. This approach can be used for all levels of fitness experience from beginners to athletes.

Functional rehab focuses more on core muscles, stabilizer muscles and all the supporting areas that assist with the larger muscle groups and joint movement. Coupled with chiropractic care and massage therapy, this functional approach to self-care is optimal for ANY lifestyle!
